Johanns Calls for Repeal of Obamacare Regulations

Introduces bill restoring financial flexibility, freedom to families saving for health care

WASHINGTON – U.S. Sen. Mike Johanns (R-Neb.) today spoke at a press conference with Sens. John Barrasso (R-Wyo.) and Orrin Hatch (R-Utah) to talk about legislation they have introduced to repeal some of the most costly, burdensome and harmful aspects of President Obama’s health care law. Johanns introduced legislation repealing the arbitrary mandates and new requirements the health care law places on health savings and flexible spending accounts. Johanns is also cosponsoring legislation to repeal the employer and individual mandates, the health insurance tax, and the medical device tax.

Below are excerpts from Johanns’ remarks.

  • “My first choice would be to vote on a measure to repeal this piece of legislation in its entirety … but having said that, I’m working with a number of people to get a piece of this repealed. I introduced a bill to restore the fairness, freedom and flexibility [that the health care law] took away from 33 million Americans relative to flexible spending or health savings accounts.”
  • “This law is bad policy. But, if we can do something to help the American people while we are still working to repeal the law, we should do that and everything we’ve talked about does exactly that.”
