WASHINGTON – U.S. Sen. Mike Johanns (R-Neb.) today sent a letter to President Obama in support of Nebraska Governor Dave Heineman’s request for a federal disaster declaration. The President’s declaration would provide federal assistance to communities and individuals affected by recent flooding and storms in Nebraska.
“A disaster declaration opens the door to a variety of assistance that we need, said Johanns. “Nebraskans have pulled together and done an outstanding job responding to the floods and storms from day one, but as I've seen firsthand, the damage to homes, businesses, crops and infrastructure is threatening our livelihoods. I'm confident we’ll continue to rise to the challenges of this historic flooding, but federal assistance is needed and appropriate as we work to rebuild communities.”
Governor Heineman today asked the President for a disaster declaration that requests both Public Assistance and Individual Assistance. The letter of support is the latest of Johanns’ flood response efforts.
A list of counties included in the declaration is available on Governor Heineman’s website here.
